DPC usually stands for Direct Primary Care but can also stand for Direct Patient Care. A DPC model provides a solution to problems plaguing our current health care delivery system: rushed office visits, fragmented care, difficult access to a physician, and long wait times for an appointment.
The “Direct” in Direct Primary Care refers to the relationship between a patient and her physician. Instead of relying on payments from insurance companies, the doctor receives payment directly from her patients, through either a monthly subscription fee or a pay as you go fee. The simplicity of this relationship allows for easy access, personalized care and a true collaboration between patient and physician.
Since the physician no longer needs to pay additional staff to collect payment from the insurers, report data, and chase down collections, the ability to provide exceptional and personalized medical care increases dramatically. Most DPC doctors limit their patient panels to guarantee full, convenient access for their established patients.
In our model at DPC GYN, once you are established and have had your yearly physical, communication with your physician may be via telehealth platforms, such as video conferencing, telephone, text messaging, or email. This will be convenient during times when you have urgent care needs and don't want to waste time in a doctor's office, like for an ear infection, sinus infection, pink eye, urinary tract infection, stomach virus, vaginal yeast or bacterial vaginosis infection, new breast mass, or if you have a new symptom and are just not sure it's something to worry about.
If you are going to be a patient that would like hormone, adrenal, thyroid testing and balancing or if you are in need of neurotransmitter and GI evaluation, the monthly subscription may be your best option, as you will need regular contact over 4-12 months.
For patients that only need to have that one yearly visit and nothing else, the pay as you go option is available. Also, if you wish to file your own insurance or have a high deductible that you would like your services to go towards, we can provide you with the diagnosis codes and chart notes for you to send to your insurance company.
Please note that I am only doing office gynecology. I do not do obstetrics and I do not do surgery. Should you become pregnant or require surgical intervention, I will refer you accordingly.
